APSA is Home to the Political Science Community

The American Political Science Association (APSA) brings together political scientists from all fields of inquiry, regions, and occupational endeavors within and outside academe to deepen our understanding of politics, democracy, and citizenship throughout the world.

The internet is an amazing place. You can find just about anything you want on the web. Lots of information. There is a lot of information. However, there is also a lot of bad information and misinformation. We thought it would be important to talk about where to go to get information on APSA, to find out what we are doing, and to be clear as to which sites are truly associated with APSA.  Importantly, APSA provides many different resources and legitimate information for members, depending on what you want to know or what you want to do.

The APSA community is built on respect.

First and foremost, all APSA platforms and channels are built to be welcoming and respectful. APSA’s RESPECT Campaign encourages “professional respect” by and towards all APSA members and participants of APSA programs, events and meetings at all times. Respect stands for Respectful, Equitable, Safe, Professional, and Ethical Conduct Towards All. We provide information, reports and educational materials that educate members on inclusion, respect, and ethical conduct in the profession of political science.

All APSA platforms and channels promote and encourage diversity and inclusion in the profession and identify and aid students and faculty from under-represented backgrounds in the political science discipline. Our goal is to broaden and deepen programming on diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the association and to build a climate of respect.

We want to increase diversity, inclusion, and access within the discipline of political science across all levels, including in leadership, governance, program development, APSA meetings and events, as well as our teaching and learning workshops and events. Check out our diversity and inclusion resources.

We also encourage members to engage only with platforms that are guided by the values of professional respect, equity, and inclusion, and those published by trusted and verifiable sources.

Network with Colleagues Using APSA Connect

APSA Connect is an online space for APSA members that encourages member-to-member collaboration, engagement, and connection. APSA Connect helps members engage with each other, share resources and information, and stay connected through forums, document libraries, and member directories.

APSA Connect also hosts almost half of APSA organized sections microsites that will take you to section webpages. These pages highlight their activities, awards, events, newsletters, journals, jobs and professional opportunities, and more. Members can engage with section officers and stay up-to-date with section activities and opportunities. To log in to APSA Connect, use the same login credentials you use for apsanet.org. You can also download the app from Google or Apple stores.

eJobs

Members of APSA have access to the most comprehensive database of jobs related to political science, eJobs. The eJobs platform is updated daily with new job listings and candidate resumes, and is fully searchable by field of interest, employer or candidate name, region, keyword, position, salary, institution type, and most recent postings.

APSA departmental members have access to post and view job listings on our eJobs site as well as view and search candidate CVs.

Through the eJobs Transparency Initiative, job posters are encouraged to share information with job candidates about the status of the hiring process for a particular job search. This benefit provides very important information to the job candidate including: when jobs are posted; when phone interviews begin; when short-list candidates are notified; when fly out interview calls begin; when a job search has concluded; and when a search cancelled. Contact Member Services for further information about updating your department’s search status.

APSA publishes four leading peer-reviewed political science journals.

APSA promotes scholarly research across the discipline of political science while continuing to promote and expand professional opportunities.  It’s so easy to lose track of all the current events and news going on in the world today, and to access it all in one place can be a challenge for those looking for information on political science. It’s even harder to keep track of the latest in political science research, teaching resources, and professional development opportunities. Well, we have a few solutions for you.

Access all of APSA’s four leading peer-review political science journals at your fingertips. Of course, with an APSA membership, this all becomes readily available. APSA members have privileges, accessible in their member profile, to read and share the latest research in the American Political Science Review (APSR), Perspectives on Politics, PS: Political Science & Politics, and the Journal of Political Science Education (JPSE). Organized Section journals are available as well.

Here’s what you need to know about APSA journals:

  • American Political Science Review (APSR) is political science’s premier scholarly research journal, providing peer-reviewed articles and review essays from subfields throughout the discipline.
  • Perspectives on Politics provides a space for broad and synthetic discussion within the political science profession, publicizing important scholarly topics, ideas, and innovations, linking scholarly authors and readers, and promoting broad reflexive discussion among political scientists about the work that we do and why this work matters.
  • PS: Political Science & Politics provides critical analyses of contemporary political phenomena and is the journal of record for the discipline of political science reporting on research, teaching, and professional development.
  • The Journal of Political Science Education (JPSE) is a peer-reviewed quarterly journal that publishes evidence-based and theoretically informed scholarship on teaching and pedagogical issues in political science.

New Member Magazine, Political Science Today

APSA’s new member-driven magazine, Political Science Today, is available in print and online to all members. APSA strongly supports community amongst our members. With Political Science Today, we have the opportunity to build our political science communities by collecting and sharing quarterly news about the discipline, member spotlights, association updates, and other content previously featured in PS: Political Science & Politics. Read the latest copy of Political Science Today.

Political science’s digital teaching resource library, APSA Educate

Educate is political science’s digital teaching resource library. This cutting-edge virtual platform supports the political science community by allowing faculty, graduate students, and the public to easily share, find, and use high-quality political science pedagogical resources of all types and across all topics. Educate is free of charge and the platform allows creators to categorize and tag their materials and to retain commons copyright licenses over their work.

Educate’s collection features teaching resources from scholars across the spectrum of APSA membership, including: syllabi and blog posts by past and incoming APSA Presidents, writing assignments and active learning activities from the Editorial Board of the Journal of Political Science Education, OER textbooks and Blackboard course shells from community college faculty, methods course syllabi from faculty at large public research universities and small liberal arts colleges, and teaching materials and blog posts from PhD candidates and Visiting Assistant Professors.
